Ali made me do it
My friend, Ali, shared her project of her @terryrunyan style of cat painting from the @thepigeonletters SCR workshop. I’ve always loved Terry’s style and I love drawing cats.
So I took a break from my Delores Naskrents Affinity Designer MasterClass work to take these Skillshare classes from Terry Runyan since I missed the SCR this year. Her classes are watercolor, but I painted them in Procreate. The links take you to my projects where you also link to the class.
- FROM COMPLEXITY TO SIMPLICITY– Cat Tugboat, my project
- Simple Animals with Simple Stories — First Day of School, my project
- Let’s Paint Cats Watercolor Fun — Three Projects, mine
The first one is painting a riverboat, but I changed mine to a tugboat.

The second one is about painting simple stories just with a few animals. Think about what happened before and what happens in the picture and what happens next. So will your viewer.
I need an image for our walk this week about our group, the Wayfinders, school supply drive. Our rural schools are near federal land — a dam and a reservation, so we have no tax base. Since the federal funding is being eliminated, our schools our suffering. So we are collecting school supplies for teachers and students. This second class got me started on a poster for our drive:

The third class was really the most fun. Three projects! Just pause while you watch and do your own painting [with traditional media or digitally]. That’s what I did. We painted cat with yarn, a group of rainbow cats, and a dancing cat with friend.

I love the bright palette, don’t you? I created one just for more cat paintings, and here’s the Procreate Palette; you can download my palette here: Cats Palette.

What brushes did I use? I found them all in Jennifer Nichol’s Creative Journey Community. [affiliate link]– the Jenn’s Potpourri set, which is one of her membership freebies.

What a blast yesterday and today! Thank you, Ali for the inspiration, Terry Runyan for the fun classes and art inspiration, and Jennifer Nichols for the brushes!
