Wednesday WrapUp MAE2025 September

Making Art Every Day

The September 2025 art challenge by @bardotbrush with @lisabardotinvites participation in creating and sharing artwork. Artists will explore colors, techniques, and tutorials, fostering creativity together. The color palettes today were created by artist Ana Bianchi  @analovescolor. I try to spend less than 30 minutes on these. Here are the prompts for three days this week.

Prompt: Victorian House in Blues

This was quite fun to draw. I watched Lisa Bardot’s tutorial on YouTube for a general frame of how to proceed with drawing a house. I used her Gouache Paintbox and Imperfect Pattern brushes. I used a LOT of layers and some clipping masks for shadows and highlights. I added the sun at left, just rising or setting, and twilight at right, darker. I thought about adding one light in a window, but this took longer than 30 minutes, so I called it done. Watch the tutorial to see how to use the gouache brushes to get wash and texture in your painting. I used the Slinking Scales brush from the Imperfect Patterns set for the upper siding on the house.

Blooming Cactus – Pop of Pink

I followed a tutorial by Lisa for this: Pastel Painting.  Lisa Bardot’s tutorial provides inspiration for vibrant, quick pieces. For more information, see the post here.

Chocolate: Deep Browns

I used the Bardot  Midcentury Retro Brushes. for this one. You would not believe the many colors in this chocolate from deep red to light lavender and shades of deep browns of chocolate in between, just to get the texture, shadows, and chocolate tones. See the post here.

Still Life

I switched to Bardot Artist Pastels Brushes with smudging in this still life of three cherries. They were sitting on textured paper towels, so I attempted to add that in the background. Mmmm is all I can say. I wrote about this in the same post as the chocolate here.

Thanks to Lisa and Ana

This week was great following palettes of certain hues of color and watching the illustrations pop with color or flow in similar hues. Thanks for the September 2025 art challenge by @bardotbrush with @lisabardot for the inspiration and tutorials that helped so many of us play with paint styles and color.
