Welcome
On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer. This week I’ve several projects: NaNoWriMo and prompts done in various styles for “Simple Joys” #makingarteveryday prompts as well as midcentury prompts from Jutta Schneider.
NaNoWriMo

This is National Novel Writing Month, and I’m writing in a community called Novel November in the ProWriting platform. The art is writing. I write 2000 words a day for 30 days in November, or until I reach 50,000 words towards a story, a novel. Mine are always science and fantasy. I’ve been doing this since 2011. This year my novel is titled, Find Her. The main character, Ellie, is on a quest to find her sister, which is taking her on a journey through a tall pine forest alone, until she finds an elder midwife and a pixie friend to help her:
excerpt from the novel, “Find Her” by Sheri Edwards“Why don’t I come to you?” Ellie asked, worried about overworking the old midwife.
“I’ll live for many years; don’t worry about me; this is what I do — bring forth the new, and that renews my own spirit. Besides, I have this old man pixie who will be accompanying me, right, Old Man?”
The pixie stood up straight and saluted her.
“As if you take orders from me,” she smiled at him.
“Well, you can try!”
And…. ta da! I did it! I wrote a short 50,000 word novel!

The Studio with Liz Kohler Brown

I finally finished October’s trend style, unmatchy, with Liz Kohler Brown in her studio. I limited the color palette and chose a watercolor technique with Liz’s brushes. I love the buttery brushes; I also added some line work, broken lines to emphasize contours.
MidCentury Style with Jutta Schneider

I’ve already written about my midcentury work with Jutta Schneider here. I love the style so much that I took her other two classes, Make it Jolly and Make it Spooky. The Make it Jolly image on the left is much closer to midcentury style — notice the offset motifs on the tree, the girl, the stool, and the gifts. We cut the shapes of the motifs out of the background, then moved the shapes slightly to the left. There are speckles and paper texture to add to the effect of printing in past times. Spoonflower Design Challenge

I entered the Retro Nouveau Design Challenge. I applied symmetry, curves, and geometry in my nouveau/deco design, bringing in some fantasy fairies and their bell shaped flowers using colors suggested in the prompt. The background is quite textured, as you can see in the mock up above.

Making Art Everyday
I’m attempting to do the “Simple Joys” prompts at Bardot Brush Making Art Every Day prompts in various styles. Here’s my gallery:

Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you do enjoy your day and find time for art. Even though I had 2000 words to write for the first 20+ days of Novemnter, I’m still found time for art!
You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. If you have any questions, just ask!
You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together!
