Wednesday WrapUp Whimsy Fun

time for tea poster Bootcamp by sheri42

Welcome

On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer. The last two weeks I’ve played Lisa Glanz brushes and participated in Peggy Dean’s Procreate Bootcamp as well as reviewed and revised some previous art works.

Last Week

I continued working through the Drawn to Whimsy Workbook Course by Lisa Glanz. I worked with her Playful Pencil Set mostly, trying to develop my own take on it. It’s very relaxing to work through the practice sessions. I hope you enjoy the animals — you’ll see that I revised the ballerina to make it a bit more playful and active.

This Week

This week and for a few weeks forward, I’ll be wildly active and creative in Peggy Dean’s Procreate Bootcamp. I started with her Beginning Procreate class — making a collection. You can see that above– the Time for Tea poster. She walked us through her usual process of sketching, coloring, shading, and highlighting with native Procreate brushes as well as exporting for printing. She provided files for us to follow along and to work through without worrying about drawing, but I chose to do my own so I could create something I could share and sell as my own. I’m especially pleased because my daughter loved it and my color choices.

Next we did another collection, as stickers. I chose to do spring planting. I chose my own limited color palette, sketched my motifs, and followed along with the lesson, which included some great tips on stickers. Simplify is one of them! I definitely did that. What do you think?

The other two drawings were quick daily prompts: drawing blogs and then creating a themed set from the blogs and the prompt: moon with mouse. Later today I’ll do with one with limited brushes, colors, and motifs– fruit with ribbon.

Review, Redo, Relax

I found in my art gallery an old illustration of a bug zoo, a very fun class with Lisa Bardot: Painting Cute Bugs in a Jar! I wanted to review how to make the clear jars, but then I decided to finish the set with caught, rescue, free illustrations. I then did it again with a new set of jars and bugs just to practice.

Using her watercolor brushes and very light bluish color, the jars are drawn, then ovals at the bottom to darken with the same brush and color. The jar behind is on its own layer. Add white highlights and darken the edges. There you have it!

Here’s the results:

Thanks for stopping by!

I hope your winter is warming up! Ours is actually getting colder, which it should be in February. Good time to stay home and make art! So go ahead: Make some art to spread some joy!

You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. If you have any questions, just ask!

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42. And, I’m so thankful you’ve been joining me with art this year! Take care!
