Welcome!
Each Wednesday check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate. This Wednesday Wrap Up , I share about the illustrating and writing I do for WriteOut.
Inspiration
The inspiration for October is, of course, the season of autumn and the lovely weather that prompts us to enjoy the outdoors without the blazing heat of summer or the freezing cold of winter. That may be why WriteOut is in October. The illustrations above developed from one of my first posts for WriteOut in which we discovered mushrooms.

WriteOut
Yes– perhaps take a walk outdoors with a sketchbook or journal– and participate in this year’s “Write Out”– a joint venture by the National Writing Project and the National Park Service to encourage people to get outdoors. This year’s Write Out is STEAM- Powered (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) from October 9-23, 2022. It’s free. It encourages writing and making and sharing about your own experiences with the outdoors in a local event, on your own, or with the Write Out activities you can find here.
I keep my writing and drawing about my Daily Walks and the local parks– and I write on my education blog here: WriteOut. This has been a busy week before WriteOut even begins. You can follow the fun on Twitter or Instagram.
Field Journal Ideas
Don’t have a sketchbook, notebook, or journal? The @writingproject has some DIY [Do It Yourself] suggestions for you:
- Rick Novak’s Field Journaling
- Field Journals How To pdf — just paper, rubber band, and a stick
- Zines
- How to make a Mini-Notebook Zine — 1 sheet of paper and scissors only
- More About Zines:
- DIY Journal: another style with only paper and scissors needed
If you have multimedia paper– that makes it better with watercolor and markers

I’ve been participating in WriteOut since 2018– and I’ve added often to my WriteOut Flickr album:
Try It!
I look forward to your sharing, and hope you join in the WriteOut fun and get inspiration for your art and poetry from the parks and areas just outside your own home. It’s a joy to have you join the journey as we learn together. Please continue to be a part of the #warmup4art series to learn and enjoy our work together!
