Winter Survival

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. While taking a weekend drive in January, 2022, up north of Wilbur on the country roads bounded by hardened, wind-blown snow across the wheat fields, a lone pheasant scampered across the rippled blanket.

And so, a poem.

Winter Survival

Startled.
Like a wind-up toy, scoots-
Across the ripples
Of wind-blown and hardened snow
Blanketing the wheat fields-
The winter survival of
Pheasants.
