United Again, Will We?

Every day, a photograph, a poem. In 2018, marchers protested the lies and attacks on civil, human rights and the idea of a changing climate. Truth matters. It was a powerful day of community and peaceful expression towards choice, equity, and justice for all.

Over the past twenty years and forward for years after 2018, a certain political organization and from 2016 on, a certain news organization stirred up animosity towards others — unknowns and neighbors creating an angry resentment that, because of the bullying voice of the then president, become uncivilly loud and vicious, sometime violent, against many people, even neighbors.

It’s been a chaotic time. Propaganda is difficult to defeat and diminish when truth and facts are ignored or distorted.

So America became un-united.

Many of us waited for truth, for the end of the chaos and the lack of compassion and willingness to converse on facts and truth and differing views.

But now, the truth has been exposed: the lies are laid bare. [PBS] It may take a while, but we wait for the time when, neighbor with neighbor, we can be united as Americans again– because everyone — across this world — feels inside themselves:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

And we understand that it is all of us “We the People” who govern– not one sect, one group, one religion, one gender– “We” — all of us.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

And so, a poem of hope…peace, unity:

United Again — Will we?

Disparage us
Despise us
Decry us
Point your screaming,
demeaning insinuations
of deceit…
Wait, we will—
Pause, we will—
As your anger spills
at exposed shills
who fed your fears
for years and years
against unknown others
and your neighbors
so you forgot
we all sought
and still we seek
in all we speak
the same as you
“we the people” do
in our lives pursue
life
liberty
happiness
beside you
with you
in togetherness
we all can
as Americans
united,
again.

    1. Yes. It’s been floating in my mind, but until the lies of that network were exposed, it seemed hopeless that we could unite again. It’s sad that all “news” stations depend on ratings, and don’t have a separation to focus on just true reporting of the facts, without the opinions and talking heads. So, perhaps, we’ll find a way through now that the lies are exposed– even though they keep lying about the lies. LOL. If it weren’t so sad and divisive, we could laugh at them.

      I just hope viewers begin to question the motives and the presentation.
