Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem.
Sometimes our daily walk takes us down a block to Columbia Avenue where it intersects with Douglas Avenue. There is a park, Douglas Park, built by the Civil Conservation Corps in 1936, with rock walkways and walls, beautiful gardens, lawned areas with picnics tables and benches, and a view of Grand Coulee Dam. You can read about the Civil Conservation Corps in this Bureau of Reclamation pdf, complete with wonderful pictures of the work they did in Coulee Dam on pages A-214 to A-209 for Camp BR-48: Columbia Basin Project, including Douglas Park. You’ll see them build the swimming pool, where our daughter served as life guard years ago.
If you go to the Town of Coulee Dam website on Douglas Park, find the link to the Urban Forest Management Plan. I’ve downloaded it to read and find out what is supposed to happen in town for trees, rather than chop down thirty-four ninety-year-old maple trees for sidewalks [Heartbreak]. But, we do have several parks in the town, so that’s a good sign.
And so, a poem…

places for trees and flowers

a people’s park
a sign of hope
of what is valued
