Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. Another memory of our once beautiful row of tiger lilies— but for some reason, they have disappeared— stopped growing. Like all of nature, things change. The weather, the animals, the small creatures. The canopy. The understory. It all changes, and each change causes another change. The Arbor Day Foundation has a wonderful lesson on the diversity of the forest and its changes here: Importance of Diverse Ecosystems. See page 8 for an image of the parts of the forest.
Our backyard has a gigantic sycamore, a couple maples, an apple and a pear tree. There are three lilac bushes, several Oregon grapes, and another shrub that popped up on it’s own. Low to the ground are periwinkle and Virginia creeper. We barely have any lawn, and what is there also has mint, clover, wood sorrel, morning glory, and violas. It needs a bit grooming, but we’re getting a bit slow in our yard work. I still love our backyard, even without the row of tiger lilies.
