Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem.
I couldn’t believe the kitty jumped that far and into the bookcase without knocking anything down, and still looking for those darn lights [from digital devices] that had been dancing on the books for her to chase and capture.
Luckily, I was able to capture her wide eyes while still in the bookcase, on the top shelf. Cats are amazing, even when kittens.
Our little kitty is a climber— she’ll climb the clothes in the closet. Or the curtains in the window.
She loves to climb trees. Unfortunately, she is camouflaged as she waits patiently for a bird to land. She waits, still, eyes focused, for just the right moment to attach. Luckily, birds can fly.
Now that she’s four years old, she no longer feels the need to climb the curtains. But if there is a light or something moving in the closet, she’ll think about climbing those clothes. If there’s a shelf above the clothes, she considers that a place to curl up, but fortunately, we have a cat tree in the perfect place for her to curl up and still keep an eye out for what’s going on around her.
Yes, she’s a cat now, and much lazier about jumping and climbing. Thank goodness.
And so, a poem, about the kitty she was….
Poetry
The Dance
A reflection
Sheri Edwards
from a watch
danced
on the books,
captured
the instincts
of kitty so small
who stalked
and crouched
and leaped
from the chair
to capture
the dance,
the light
that disappeared—
where did it go?
