Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate. This Wednesday Wrap Up shares both my art and my poetry, all under the spell of autumn leaves.
The cat, the queen of the house, immediately took my place on the couch when I got up to refill my Cacao Shell Tea, a Martha Washington favorite and now mine for its subtle chocolate flavor without any caffeine. Returning to my art on my iPad, I found the cat in my spot. As I approached, she drew her weapons, moving her paw and frowning at me to let me know she’s not moving. As I said, she is queen of the house. That paw now covers an autumn birch leaf on the autumn leaves pattern throw. So I decided to snap a photo of the queen and write today’s blog post instead.
This autumn leaves collection here is the pattern with the white background, although I have also designed the pattern with a subtle green or a subtle yellow background too. I also added kitchen tea towels, which I wrote about here, I, Sycamore.
The throw is a soft ultra cuddly “minky” fabric with a soft napped finish, which you can see to the left of the cat in the above photo and here:
The cat is actually laying on top of a rectangular tablecloth. I purchased a large tablecloth to use as a couch cover for our old couch. With the new couch, it will now be a table cloth again. Sometimes you have to think outside of the box, like using a tablecloth as a couch cover.
I love trees, especially the trees in our neighborhood. This Autumn Leaves Collection is inspired by cottonwood, sycamore, maple, birch, aspen, and willow in a cozy pattern that soothes the soul. I feel that when walking among these trees for my daily walk.
I so enjoyed drawing this pattern of my favorite autumn leaves. Each leaf design is based on a fallen leaf I brought home as a resource for drawing the leaves. There’s a lot of texture and antiquing along with color gradients clipped to the base layer. I’m pleased with the pattern and each leaf.
The trees inspired the pattern. I liked my pattern so much, I purchased the curtains.
The Spoonflower curtains are a heavy Cypress Cotton Canvas, a sophisticated basketweave texture for lived-in luxury for home decor. I love them and my art design.
Also see many other products in this autumn leaves design on Society 6. Here it is as a cutting board, an iPhone wallet case, and a tote bag on Society 6 [click image to product]
And so, when the cat posed for her picture in my spot on the couch, I decided today was the day to write about this art, and the cat’s poem.

I’m Not Moving
You left.

It’s cozy here,
warm where you once sat.
Perfect for me, the cat.
[moves paw]
[lowers eyebrows]
I’m not moving.
You left.
