American Kestrel

Inspiration

I created this illustration after painting my robins, which I shared here: Robin in Spring, with information about the strategies I used.

I painted the robins following the wonderful Lisa Glanz‘s tutorial on Design Cuts to learn how to use her new brush set for Procreate, AquaReal2 Texture Edition Watercolor. Lisa provides brushes, palette, and canvases with the set of brushes, with a tutorial, tutorial canvas, and guide.

After watching the tutorial in the provided guide, I had painted this Teapot and Cups. The brush set is fantastic and the brushes are very watercolor-like. Excellent.

American Kestrel

Since the palette is almost the same, I practiced again today with the brushes an illustration of the American Kestrel. I really like to add the outline leaf details to the painting, since my paintings aren’t perfect to the species, but they are close. It adds an artsy / abstract component, which indicates the illustration is an art project, not a bird identifier.

I also created this “WikiPaintia*” to show the palette and brushes used for the four paintings.
