Be Thankful for Beauty

hawthorn tree in bloom in May

A Little Note

The Photo:

Our hawthorn tree with its deeply lobed leaves and lovely, pink double blossoms.

The Thought:

This photo in the middle of May after already two weeks of blooming shows how beautiful the blossoms and leaves are together in quite the late spring display. In autumn, red haws or berries provide food for many birds.

I’m not sure if this is an English Hawthorn or Paul’s Scarlet. It does not have thorns, which some hawthorns do.

This is a new tree; our very old hawthorn was blown over in a severe windstorm years ago. Luckily, it just missed our van.

Most importantly, it’s a beautiful tree providing food and shelter for all the local birds, a joy in all seasons. It is a small delight.

Be Thankful

When the world seems worn,
torn in many issues: be
thankful for bright blooms
