September 8 the prompt is Birds, Ducks, Yellow, so who doesn’t like little ducklings?
Process
I started with a sketch. I wanted the duckling to be walking towards the viewer. I filled in a light base color using Lisa Bardot’s Midcentury Brush set. It includes a variety of line, fill, and texture brushes, perfect for quick illustrations.
After the base color of the body of the duckling, I added in shades of yellows and blended them in. I added shadows, blended. I finished the details of face and feet. That includes yellows and shading. I added the background water and sky with a texture brush, enclosing the illustration like an almost oval frame. Behind that I added the weave texture over the light yellow background, then over the top of it all I added two layers of the weave in a pale gray, with one layer on multiply on low opacity and the lower layer on color burn, slightly lower opacity. This creates a canvas-like overlay.
Colors? complimentary and analogous.
It’s not as “cute” as I wanted it to be, but it was fun to quickly create, and I know my great-grandchild will like it.
