Lake Reflection on August 4th, 2026 at 7 PM: The sun of fire shines through Washington State wildfire smoke in calm weather, reflecting the landscape at Crescent Lake in Grand Coulee.
And on the opposite shore, even the smoke can be seen in the landscape reflection.
Many have lost everything, their homes, photos, regalia– history lost. The southern border of the Kaiser Canyon fire is about eight miles from this spot. The smoke is hazardous, yet comes with some good: the smoke smothers the fires because of less oxygen to maintain its ignition; the fire cannot breathe. Of course, we are having difficulties too.
Thank you to the firefighters who continue to work to save lives, homes, property, and our forests.
