I decided to create the daily worry in our area in summertime: wildfires. We have three wildfires near us that are finally being contained, thanks to the wildfire support of many services, including firefighters from Australia.
So I illustrated the flames in the wings and the blue water of the firefighters dump as they can, depending on the smoke. The closest to us is the Kaiser Canyon Fire, just north of us; it is over 80% contained. Images on Wikimedia Commons. Watch Duty, the app we use for updates.
Although we are dealing with horrible air quality that comes and goes, the fire has remained north of us with the southern end contained.
So thankful for the resources available to fight the fires– but their should be more; the press release recently from National Federation of Federal Employees explains how the United States has lost over 6000 forest service employees, many of whom were firefighters, due to DOGE and current administration cutbacks. Livelihoods, lives, and property are lost because of this.
Make some noise. Move your feet. Write to your members of congress. See ACLU for how.
