Chartreuse Calls

the new leaves of spring are the color of chartreuse

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem.

Yesterday, I discovered this color in nature: chartreuse. It’s a color and word I had been confused about and wrote about yesterday: Chartreuse, and promised another poem today.

It’s funny that I knew the word, knew the color, but still found myself confused. The name probably comes for Gaulish language, from Celtic Gaul, through which the Chartreuse Mountains were named. It is where the Grand Chartreuse chateau is located, and that’s where the French liqueur chartreuse originated. And the color of that liqueur soon came to be called “chartreuse.” Learn a bit about chartreuse for your art in this article at Adobe. According to the article, many people are still confused about that color.

And so on my walk today I looked for the “speckles of chartreuse” I wrote about yesterday so I could use the phrase in my poem today with a new photo. I did not know I was to find a connection to Celtic people in my research adventure. Part of my heritage is Scottish, so I’ve always been interested in the ancient Celts.

And so, another chartreuse poem…

Poetry

Chartreuse Calls

speckles of chartreuse
shine before the granite wall;
creatures sense the change:
squirrels scamper on tree limbs
songbirds search for nesting spots
