Wednesday WarmUp Cat Coin Bank

Welcome!

For the past few weeks, this blog has hosted “Wednesday Warm Up,”— a day of usually quick drawing, inking, brushing as warm up to our serious art. I share a strategy to try each Wednesday using the iPad app ProCreate. I only use the brushes in the app— there are so many I haven’t tried that warming up with a new brush will be an added bonus and challenge.

This Week

This week we’ll look at brushes and layering. I continue to enjoy experimenting with the brushes — I’m loving dry ink, ink bleed, oberon, Nikko Rull, and cygnet.

What I Learned:

Dry ink fills in better than Ink Bleed, but I think ink bleed works better with blend modes.

Nikku Rull was great for smushing in blobs of original light and dark fur colors and then “smudging them together. I then clipped a layer of light colored clay brush and blurred it a little to create a furry underlayer before adding the stripes.

Cygnet worked great in little zig zag strokes to create the tabby stripes. I created all the dots and stripes in one color, then duplicated that layer and alpha locked it to change to a lighter color. I transformed that up a bit and below the original color. I duplicated the original again and repeated the process for a darker color, but tranformed it lower than the original.

On other projects I can take a bit more time using this process. If you have any other suggestions, I’d love to know, and I hope this process has helped you.
