Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. This is a little different than usual. It’s a screenshot my 5-Card Story I created for a ten-year anniversary of a course I took in 2013: ETmooc. I wrote a post about it’s influence on my teaching and learning here: ETmooc at 10 Dip In.
We have a responsibility to participate as citizens of the world and the United States to speak up against the chaos and division– to honor all, inclusively, and work towards more participation, equity, and opportunity for all of us. ALL of us, even those trashing democracy. Because that’s what democracy is: all voices.
We do not ban books.
We do not take away a woman’s right to choose for herself and her family.
We do not judge and condemn others who are different.
We do not squelch another’s beliefs.
We do not make laws that infringe on others’ rights.
Those are unAmerican.
We do honor diversity.
We do honor an individual’s rights to choose for him or her self.
We do honor those who choose differently.
We do honor others’ beliefs.
We do honor human rights.
That IS America.
And so, a poem:
Dip In!
No matter the chaos, dip in!

Add the blooms of brightness and care–
In your neighborhoods, online and in world,
Be the lens of beauty and equity
And keep sharing, giving to the world

Octavia Butler, science fiction author, from Audrey Watters March 8, 2022 transcript/post “Hope for the Future”
‘I mean there’s no single answer that will solve all of our future problems. There’s no magic bullet. Instead there are thousands of answers — at least. You can be one of them if you choose to be.’
You can be one of them if you choose to be,
to give a little bit of our own.
