Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem.
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
~ Greek Proverb [See history of quote at Quote Investigator]
We are not great in our town, I guess, because men decided that neat and tidy sidewalks are more important than saving trees, than finding alternative sidewalk engineering, than beauty, than shade, than pollution absorbers, than oxygen makers, than neighborhoods, than home values, than lovely places to walk, than homeowner concerns, etc.
You will not see this view. It is gone. AND– there is no money to replace the trees– ninety-year old red maple trees– nor a desire to do so by the current members of the town’s governing body.
We need a new mindset with young, fresh faces and earth-loving people to guide us into the hot and stormy future.
Even Washington’s Department of Natural Resources thinks trees are important– and with a different mindset that includes saving our trees, funding is available…
- Urban Forestry Grants
- Tree City / Arbor Day / Urban Forests [I guess we’ll never be on this list]
- Tree Equity– Improving Neighborhood Tree Canopies
- Urban and Community Forestry
- Biden-Harris Tree and Green Spaces
and so, a poem….
