Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. In 2021 this little hummingbird nested in our giant sycamore tree in this same spot. It survived, but the young in the egg did not make it. I cried. I still cry about the tiny little creature and its mother. It was the heat— 113 degrees Fahrenheit. We tried to help by placing a mister below the area, trying to lower the temperature.
We’ve been having a few cool days, and I hope it stays for the six weeks needed for the young one. Hatching can occur in two weeks, but the fledgling cannot fly for a month. I hope the weather holds.

Little Hummingbird
Little hummingbird returns
Tiny nest snuggled
On a thin branch
That dangles softly
In the windLittle hummingbird watches
Whatever passes by,
Zips away and back
In the weather now so cool:
Waiting for the hatch. Please we call to nature
Sheri Edwards
To hold back the blazing heat
Until this lovely creatures’ young
Grows strong enough
To zip away alone.
