NaPoWriMo Sand’s Pink Carpet

Erodium cicutarium, pinweed, on the beach at Crescent Bay, plus poem from poet; poem/photo by Sheri Edwards

Visiting Crescent Bay today to walk the dog, I noticed the lovely pink carpet of wildflowers spreading in the tan sand. I realized it is a wildflower that also grows in my lawn, pinweed or Stork’s Bill, Erodium cicutarium. It’s a lovely little flower that usually does not grow this large in the lawn, but here it is a lovely carpet. And so, a haiku.

The beach sandy brown
today carpeted in pink
