Wednesday WrapUp More Contour

Welcome!

I’ve enjoyed sharing Wednesday Wrap Up— a wrap up of my project tips for the past week or something I’ve learned that may also help others with the same #warmup4art hashtag. Today I share my continued enjoyment of contour drawing inspired by the class I took on Skillshare by Cardwell and Ink Design: Procreate for Beginners: Botanical Contour line drawing, which is like my own Quick Splash MessagesFunky Florals, and Line Art / Off Kilter art styles.

The Inspiration

As you know from previous posts, my CLmooc friends doodle every day.

Last week, it was tulips, and this week I continued with contour drawing, this time of Stork’s-bill or Pinweed. These little pink flowers sprout smiles. After my identification adventure [Rejoice], it seemed that a doodle for the little flower was needed, and contour drawing is so relaxing and fun.

About the brushes

The brushes used can be those from just procreate. Here’s what I used:

  • Procreate monoline, noise, studio pen;
  • Jennifer Nichols- Big Monoline and
  • Lisa Bardot- Scratch Art set
  • Cardwell and Ink texture brushes for background circle texture [not shown]

Added Process

Two things I’ve added to the process learned in the Botanical Contour Drawing class:

  • A dual outline: one in black, then one in white, slightly off kilter. I really like the effect it creates— almost 3D
  • A shadow behind

Try It

So, that wraps up this Wednesday Wrap Up. As we develop our skills every day we choose to make art every day, and stretch ourselves with strategies that match the style and effect of our goals. And sometimes our “playing around” with the help of other artist teachers, we find a piece we love and can share with others. As we learn, we adapt to our own style, as with the white outline and shadow in this piece. So keep going in two ways: make art every day and learn and share with others.

Thank you so much to Priscilla CardyLisa Bardot, and Jennifer Nichols for their classes and sharing to help all of us improve and discover our own styles and processes. You may want to click the Artist Gems category on my blog for other teachers and artists who might inspire you.

I look forward to your sharing, and please continue to be a part of the  #warmup4art series to learn and enjoy our work together! See my sharing at IG @42Sheri and Twitter @42Sheri.
