Weekly WrapUp May 13 26

Welcome

On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer. This week I doodled another chalk art, played with watercolor, and a created another birthday card. Take a look!

Watercolor Cute Birds

Since I loved the watercolor birds with Lisa Glanz’s Blot and Blooms, I decided to take my friend Brenda Bakker’s Cute Birds Skillshare class. She explains how she develops her sketches from reference photos to find the “shapes” within the bird and then refines that shape with the characteristics of the particular bird. I chose the Washington State Bird, the willow goldfinch. Here’s the link to my project, and the two versions: watercolor style and a sticker:

Two Projects with Quadrant Symmetry

I love using quadrant symmetry — painting a corner so the illustration repeats in the other three corners/quadrants.

I created a Mothers Day card with the chalk art I shared before. To learn about this technique and more you might want to join Jennifer’s community: affiliate link to Creative Journey membership.

And I created a birthday card for a granddaughter:

Watercolor Folk Art

Remember that Lisa Glanz promoted her new Blot and Bloom watercolor brush set, complete with five brushes, canvases, palettes, tutorials, and a guide. As I said in last week’s post, I love her brushes. This mushroom art is from one of her tutorials for the new set. I’ve shared it before, but I added some folk art elements, a little mouse, and better weeds around them.

Thanks for stopping by!

Make some art to spread some joy! Take time every day– even quadrant symmetry art will refresh you from the day’s chaos and will bring joy to those you share it with. Take out your sketchbook or iPad. See what you come up with and share.

You can find many helpful artists teachers, including the ones mentions in this post, on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. If you have any questions, just ask!

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42. And, I’m so thankful you’ve been joining me with art this year! Take care!
