Weekly WrapUp June 24

Welcome

On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer. This week I finished Liz Kohler Brown’s Summer School and enjoyed Lisa Glanz’s Skillshare class, How To Create Vintage-Inspired Animal Characters in Procreate.

Vintage Animal Characters

This was so fun– Lisa Glanz’s Skillshare class, How To Create Vintage-Inspired Animal Characters in Procreate — I followed along to create chipmunk friends. I love that Lisa includes a pdf of the process so participants can continue on their own for their next set of cute vintage characters. My Project: Chipmunk Friends

One of the great tips is to create a Pinterest board of vintage toddler patterns for ideas of your character’s poses and clothing. My Pinterest Board: Poses Toddler.

I will work on more chipmunk characters just for fun and to improve the faces a bit– a bit more loose and furry.

Why chipmunks? As a kid, at the rental cabin at Lake Metigoshe, all the cousins would take turns holding out our palms filled with sunflower seeds for the friendly little chipmunks to take. And every time we drive into the forests of our public lands, we pause at meadow areas and sit to watch the scampering wild chipmunks, listening to them chatter at us. Good memories for cute characters.

Summer School

I finished Liz Kohler Brown’s Summer School with sample products on Zazzle. Liz took us through an entire project from concept to product design and upload. I chose Zazzle because I already have a store there [Zazzle] and I have had good experience with most of the products.

Below you see my final Day 3 project for Summer School with two color ways and several products. I enjoyed the process and could see how designing and uploading for products is something that doesn’t take much time, except in the final sketch and painting. For Days 1 and 2, visit WrapUp June 17.

The idea is a reminder to live life with a little spice; a few bits of home decor to remind everyone to enjoy life and laugh together.

On Zazzle, my shop includes a wall sign, a tabletop plaque with easel, a mug, and coasters, in blue or gold. Click an image to view on Zazzle. I will share photos when they arrive.

Thanks for stopping by!

If you see “free” summits from talented artists and art coaches, try a few for a boost in information and strategies to keep going with your art goals. It introduces you to the teachers and coaches so you can choose the ones that fit you.

You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills.

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42. And, I’m so thankful you’ve been joining me with art this year! Take care!
