Weekly WrapUp July 8 Theme Carnival

Welcome

On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer.

This week I join the members of Lisa Bardot’s Art Makers Club for Founders Month –the fourth birthday for the club. I am a founding member and find inspiration and tutorials there that keep me making art every day. Everyone can join in with her free Make Art Everyday prompts and some of her tutorials on YouTube.

Carnival

The theme this month for Make Art Everyday prompts is Carnival. I’m almost caught up with the first week. The goal is to create something related to the prompt with the time you have, whether it’s the day or ten minutes. Through Lisa’s club, many tutorials are provided to get you going.

Here’s my first week so far– click an image to flow through full size. The process here is to sketch, then begin to add color, usually on separate layers and using clipping masks to add texture and shading. Although I could use “smart object,” which is to draw a shape and then just fill the object, I choose to paint in the shape with brushes that have a bit of texture. For some of these, I also used the “noise” adjustment, which creates the dotted print effect. We learned that in the hat tutorial mentioned below, and which will be part of tomorrow’s class called “Print Shop.”

Today, we had a class that was open to everyone — drawing award ribbons, for “Made Art Today.” The first illustration is following Lisa’s tutorial, and the second is my update with colors I like.

Tomorrow is a “Print Shop” class in the club — learning retro old time illustrations that look like the old “print” process. The brushes in the brush set are the ones that I used to create most of the prompts. But here’s examples of the print shop effect that we will learn more about tomorrow. The “hat lady” is a tutorial in the “Kickstart” class for beginners to Procreate. The first is the one following the tutorial, the other two are my adaptations afterwards.

Thanks for stopping by!

This will be a fun month for drawing — quick and fun drawings for the Carnival theme.

You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills.

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42. And, I’m so thankful you’ve been joining me with art this year! Take care!
