Play Music on the Porch Day
The last Saturday in August has been Play Music on the Porch Day since 2014. Today, WayFinders sponsored the event at Sacred Hearth Mission in Nespelem, WA. Five local musicians and one from Spokane joined in guitar, fiddle, and vocals for a wonderful event, complete with sing-a-longs, potluck, and conversation for the community.
From 4 – 7 pm we sang, listened, tapped our feet, nodded our heads, and smiled in the joy of a community gathering — no fancy stuff, just good old music and song. We decided it will happen again.
Someone even suggested doing this for Christmas. A visitor from the Methow said their community has an organization of musicians who gather the first Sunday of each month, sitting in a circle, passing around the floor to each other. Lots of good ways to bring neighborhoods and communities together.
