The year 2020 will be one we will want to forget, but will not, especially if you’ve lost loved ones. So this day, I think we are all looking forward to a brighter tomorrow.
One way to do that is to make choices for yourself to support that hope— and to uplift others. Each year since 2015, instead of New Year’s Resolutions, I’ve been picking “One Word” to inspire me throughout the year. I reviewed my past endeavors here: One Word.
Last year, my word was UPLIFT. I spent the year creating art that I hoped uplifted others– and, due to the COVID pandemic, that became even more important. One way I spread the encouragement is by sending postcards each month to my family, who I can no longer meet with due to my own health and age complications. And my part-time, online job is to coach teachers learn to integrate technology, which became a more important element in the lives of many teachers and students. And the final aspect of my UPLIFT, is uplifting the work of other artists, which I recently started on this, my Art Blog: Artists Gems.
I hope these small gestures have, indeed, uplifted those in my life and online world.
And so, I challenge you to do the same. It’s amazing how one word can help guide you through the year and spread goodness in your life and the life of others as you strive to meet that one word.
Don’t panic! You don’t need to think of it today– or tomorrow, just start thinking about it. To help you, here are some places that are helping me choose my one word:
- The Goal Chaser: Word of the Year for 2021
- Oprah Magazine: How a One-Word New Year’s Resolution Can Help You Set the Best Intentions for 2021
- The Original One Word site: OneWord365
- Jon Gordon even wrote the book about it, with a “create a poster” widget
So– go ahead– get ready for the New Year and consider One Word to guide you– let me know what you decide. If you’re like me, it will take you a while to consider a good one, one that works for you, and for those around you.
Happy, Brighter New Year!
