Welcome!
For the past many weeks, this blog has hosted “Wednesday Warm Up,”— a day of usually quick drawing, inking, brushing as warm up to our serious art. I share a strategy to try each Wednesday using the iPad app ProCreate. I usually only use the brushes in the app— there are so many I haven’t tried that warming up with a new brush will be an added bonus and challenge. Today I’ll refer you to an artist and her video howto for doodling fun animals.
This Week
This week I’ve been busy with my daily goals— a photo and poem, a #CLmooc doodle, a Daily Create. So I haven’t been using “warmups.”
I wondered what I could share today for my followers. Then serendipity happened.
I subscribe to Diana McDermott’s My McDoodles YouTube Channel, and wouldn’t you know it— something to share. I’ve been thinking about what to create for my great-grandson. I was thinking of an alphabet blanket or poster or book with animals. He loves the outdoors. And Diana shared a quick and easy way to create whimsical animals— exactly what I was thinking about. AND, it fit with a Doodle prompt, Splash of Color.

If you just want a quick and fun doodle, these are it. Here’s Diana’s quick class:
And my little replays:
As you can see, I’ve been enjoying the quick and fun drawing with basic shapes. And, here’s the important thing: the more I practice, the easier it will be AND the cuter and more expressive they will become so that I can draw the little creatures to match the alphabet for the little toddler in my life.

Oh– the Brushes
As I wrote earlier, I try to use only brushes in the Procreate app so that others can learn along with me and the artists shared. Here’s what I found:
- Animal: choice of dry ink [inking] or chalk [calligraphy]
- Face/Details: smaller size of animal brush or monoline or technical pen [inking], or 6B Pencil [sketching]
- Sky/Ground: Cotton [organic] on a filled layer
- Foliage: Sword grass, snow gum [organic]
- Scratchings: Hessian [organic]
Now, when I create my creatures for my great-grandson, I’ll add a bit more details and expression— but Diana helped me get started, and I truly appreciate her sharing. Thank you.
