Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. On our way to our granddaughter’s wedding in Oregon, we avoided the treacherous highway [I-82] to Yakima over the uplifted hills of Manastash Ridge and traveled instead the blue highways like 241 that allows us to view the amazing Hanford Reach— fifty-one miles of the only part of the amazing 1,243 mile long Columbia River that is free-flowing. It’s a spectacular view of the river— and the entire journey gives the flavor of ancient times. This river provided the sustenance for the peoples of those times.

Hanford Reach

For eighty years, free
to flow on unencumbered—
this fifty-one miles
untouched by man’s intrusions,
gem of the desert.
