This is rush skeletonweed. The scientific name is Chondrilla juncea of the family Asteraceae; it is a noxious weed because it overruns native plants that wildlife and agricultural animals need for grazing. It’s now all over eastern Washington, though it is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It’s actually all over North America. Of course, the native varieties in Europe, Asia, and North Africa have medicinal uses for their varieties. Here, the plants are considered weeds.
The lovely little flower, about a 1/2 inch across does bright one’s day.

I hadn’t heard about this plant before – what a pretty plant for such a name, and what a shame it’s so invasive.

It grows like a skeleton and the flowers are so tiny. I still like it. The native varieties in its native countries seem to have uses, even for food. Perhaps our varieties lost some of the native beauty and nutrients.
