Thank You

Thank you to Jennifer Nichols for her lesson to Welcome Spring with Gouache Florals. I love gouache, especially digital [no mess to clean up]. Her lesson includes brushes and the brush canvas [free to use, even commercially].

I enjoy learning with her teaching style and love the brushes and courses, so I am an affiliate of her Creative Journey Community. The Flowers

Jennifer provided an entire sheet of floral designs, some of which I used in my previous post, Gouache Welcome Spring.

For today’s illustration, I turned to my Kindle book by Peggy Dean, Botanical Line Drawing in which she provides step by step directions for two hundred flowers, leaves, cacti, etc. It really helped the imagination of creating and organizing the flowers to augment the lesson by Jennifer.

I also applied a flat floral composition stamp from Teela Cunningham [Every Tuesday] Flat Florals class to help organize my initial sketch.

I’m pleased with the result after adding in the details and style from Jennifer’s live draw class.

I then applied a few color variation techniques in Procreate.

Here’s a summary sheet of my adjustments for color variation in Procreate with the three different tools mentioned in the captions above.

The Products

I created the illustration in a larger size [10×14] than I needed, in case I want to place them on other products. For today, I uploaded [at 5×7] the initial one to Zazzle and CardIsle as greeting cards. It takes a few days for Cardisle to show up as the company personally approves each card.

For Zazzle, I created a Greeting Card Collection and added the Hello Floral Bouquet card to it. I ordered ten cards today.

Sending a sunny ‘hello’ your way, wrapped in the vibrant hues of wildflowers.
Hope this card brings a smile to your day!

In Cardisle, it’s recommended to write three different messages for the inside. For help with that, I query ChatGPT with a prompt, “Write 10 messages for a “hello” greeting card illustrated with a floral bouquet.” In seconds, ten messages are presented and I can choose and adapt the ones I like. This saves a lot of time. I also ask ChatGPT to “write” rather than “list” ten messages because I don’t want it to provide someone else’s actual greeting messages in a “list.” I’m looking for ChatGPT’s adaptation of its learning to answer my query.

I Did IT

I’ve mentioned many Artist Gems in this post, which I hadn’t planned on, but I love to give credit to those who have provided guidance in my artist journey. For links to artists, see Artist Resources.

So, with the help of Jennifer, Peggy, and ChatGPT, I was able to illustrate a greeting card and create color variations. Thanks to  Cat Coq in her class on “How To Sketch Animals From A Reference Photo for ideas on color variations. I am thankful for the technology that allows all of us to be forever learners without leaving the house!

Which of these artists and ideas have inspired you? Which ones will you check out for your own goals?

I’m going to stick with gouache florals for a bit before I return to the rabbit project. I’m behind in my goals from Delores’s 5 Greeting Card event.

Being an artist and sharing our illustrations makes for a busy, creative, happy life, wouldn’t you agree?

I often provide links in my art posts to artists, courses, brushes, and books.
